2014 W/Cup qualifier: FIFA okays Cairo for Egypt/Ghana clash
Egypt have been cleared by Fifa to host their World Cup play-off match against Ghana in Cairo despite concerns by their opponents they would not be safe in the wake of recent unrest.
World football’s governing body have told the two countries the second leg of their tie can be played on the Egyptian capital despite Ghana expressing fear for the safety of their players.
The Ghana Football Association had urged Fifa to find “a safe and secure venue” in a neutral territory for the November 19 return leg.
But Fifa on Wednesday confirmed Cairo as the venue following a visit by a security inspection delegation and a demand Egypt provide the guarantees on the security situation, it said in a letter to both countries released to the media by the Ghana Football Association.
