BY PETER DURU

MAKURDI — The Senate President, David Mark, weekend,  declared Nigerian armed forces were winning the war against insurgency and other violent crimes in parts of the country.

Mark noted the tremendous progress recorded by the armed forces had also been complemented by their “dogged determination, unwavering loyalty and sincerity to ensure the forces of evil did not succeed in derailing the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The Senate President spoke at the closing ceremony of the Chief of Air Staff’s 10th annual golf tournament at the Makurdi Golf Club.

While commending the Air Force Chief for the tournament, Mark urged members of the armed forces to “continually strive towards nation-building and the protection of the nation’s territorial integrity.”

Represented by Senator Ahmed Alkali, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force, Mark also said: “This tournament should be sustained because it was aimed at improving the spirit of sportsmanship and ensuring that our officers and men are mentally and physically fit to discharge their statutory responsibilities at all times.”
