As the Super Eagles tackle Ethiopia in the first leg of the 2014 World Cup play –off in Addis Ababa tomorrow, Anambra state commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Edozie Aroh, has charged the Stephen Keshi-tutored squad to beat the Walya Antelopes at home not minding their home fans.
The commissioner disclosed this during the final of Governor Peter Obi Unity Cup at the Rojenny Stadium, Oba in Anambra state. “I do not think we have any cause to be scared of the Ethiopians, we have beaten them several times before. This is a high profile game that needs to be taken seriously by the players. I want to urge the entire squad to see this game as the game of their lives.
They know the importance of this match and can not afford to gamble with it. We need to win this game and win convincingly so that by the time we play the return leg in Calabar, it will just be a formality. World Cup is so important that Nigeria can not afford to be absent from it.
As reigning African kings, they need to show that they are real champions in the continent, what we need now is the World cup ticket. With the presidential supports these boys are getting now, I have no doubt in my mind that they would do us proud in Addis Ababa, “ he said.
The commissioner said that he will be leading a team of supporters from AnambraState to Addis Ababa to cheers the Eagles to victory, adding, “Nigeria will definitely qualify for the World Cup in Brazil come 2014. Eagles will drink good wine after their victory on Sunday.”
