Ex-Nigeria stars Jonathan Akpoborie and Sunday Oliseh have praised Emmanuel Emenike after he inspired Eagles to a 2-1 win in a World Cup playoff in Ethiopia.
However, Eagles assistant coach Daniel Amokachi has warned that there is still 90 minutes between Nigeria and a place at Brazil 2014.
Akpoborie told MTNFootball.com that it was Emenike’s intelligence that won the game for Eagles and that they need to work harder for next month’s return leg clash in Calabar.
”I see it as the individual brilliance of Emenike that took us over this hurdle called Ethiopia,” Akpoborie said
”Congrat to the Eagles and Nigerians but they have to work harder ahead of the home tie.”
Former Eagles skipper Oliseh through his twitter handle said Nigerians should savour the victory as he labelled Emenike “5-Star Emenike.”
”Nigerians please stop arguing about the performance, at this stage, all that interest us is qualification. Don’t worry be Happy “5 Star Emenike,”” Oliseh tweeted.
Emenike scored a brace in the 67th and 90th minutes to earn Nigeria a big 2-1 win over hosts Ethiopia.
Amokachi said the team are looking forward to completing the job they started in Ethiopia in Calabar next month.
Amokachi admitted it was a difficult game in Addis Ababa, but the Eagles proved their class.
”It was a difficult match, Addis Ababa is always a difficult place to play with fans all over the place supporting the home team,” he said.
“They gave us scare in the first half, but we survived it. In the second half we showed them the stuff of Africa champions.
“But it is not over, we still have 90 minutes to play before with start the celebrations.”
