Jonathan joins FCT pilgrims to Holy Land

ABUJA — PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will join 1,000 Pilgrims from the Federal Capital Territory to perform this year’s Christian Pilgrimage, just as the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, yesterday, said that there must be no single case of abscondment during the exercise in the holy land.

Inaugurating the FCT 2013 Christian Pilgrimage delegation to the holy land, Minister of State, FCTA, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, urged the team to ensure that necessary attention was paid to the security and welfare of FCT pilgrims in Nigeria and in the holy land.

He added that the 1,000 Pilgrims will cover November/December 2013 operation and March/April 2014 operation.

Addressing journalists after the inauguration, leader  of the team and Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Senator Philip Aduda who noted that they cannot afford to fail against the backdrop that President Jonathan will be participating in this year’s programme, said that arrangements have been concluded to ensure that no pilgrim will abscond were tracked.

According to Senator Aduda, 1,500 intending pilgrims were screened, fifteen disqualified for reasons ranging from underage, ill health, among others, even as said that 1,000 qualified while others could not meet up due to financial constraints, adding that the duration of the pilgrimage will be twelve days.

Aduda who stressed the need for prayers from Nigerians for President Jonathan and others in leadership positions against principalities and the development of the country, however disclosed that welfare, security, accommodation, feeding, air transport arrangements have been concluded.

Other members of Senator Aduda’s team are Rev. Israel Akanji; Rev. Fr. Innocent Jooji; Rev. Bob Alonge; Mazi Emmanuel Olugbuo; Mrs Aigbomian Olufunmilayo and Dr. Lazarus Gaza.
