FCMB commits to Gov’s Cup sponsorship

FCMB commits to Gov’s Cup sponsorship

As the main draw of the 13th Governor’s Cup Futures I serves off today at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has said that it  was committed to the tournament because of the need to improve the ranking of Nigerian players.

Explaining the reason for its sponsorship of the tournament, the bank’s Executive Director, Mr. Olufemi Bakre, said the concept of the competition was what endeared the Bank to the annual tournament organised by the Lagos State Government.

“We are proud to sponsor the Governor’s Cup again this year. At FCMB, we believe in supporting what our stakeholders value. Sports and indeed the game of lawn tennis are a key passion point for them which is why we have thrown our weight behind this tournament,” Mr Bakre said.

The Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship is the longest International Tennis Tournament (ITF) in the country. This year’s tournament is the 13th edition and FCMB has co-sponsored the tournament for four consecutive years.

The Bank’s support is in line with its commitment to the development of sports in Nigeria considering the huge opportunities it offers not just to the people, but also for national unity.

According to Mr. Bakre, the excitement and bond generated by previous editions of annual tournament is a testimony to this. Hence, “it is always FCMB’s desire to support worthy causes that would benefit the youth and engender national development”.
