‘Bureaux de change operators need to study new $100 notes’

By Prince Osuagwu

RETAIL forex brand, Travelex has said that bureaux de change operators need to study current changes in world currency denominations to be able to adequately service their customers.

The company said it was the reason why it last week, provided training/awareness workshop to the BDC operators, particularly as the country awaited the arrival of the redesigned one hundred US dollar bill, $100, in the next few days.

The workshop sensitized BDC operators on the features of the new 100 dollar bill to enable them differentiate between the new notes from counterfeits.

Tony Enwereji, General Manager, Travelex Nigeria, stated that the company had to organize the training to help the BDC operators keep abreast the qualities and features of the new notes to not only help them identify counterfeits but also to ensure that dollar counterfeiting is kept very low in the country if not eradicated. He said that to keep counterfeiting low, the U.S government continues to enhance the security of its currency hence the decision of the country to introduce the new $100 bill note.

“The redesigned $100 bill note and the old note currencies would be running concurrently but it is pertinent for Travelex as the world’s number one brand in retail foreign exchange to sensitize other BDC operators before the new notes will be available in the Nigerian market within the next two weeks, hence the training /awareness workshop”. Enwereji stated.

Speaking, Rufus Akpasubi of CBN lauded Travelex for its leadership roles in forex retail, exemplified by holding the training programme to sensitize bureaux de change operators and the public on the new $100 currency note.
