Anambra: PDP bows to court, forwards Ukachukwu

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA — Bowing to court orders, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has forwarded Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as its candidate for the Anambra State gubernatorial election.

The development came as a blow to the camp of Mr. Tony Nwoye, who won the party’s official gubernatorial primary and had been upheld by the national party until the latest development. The Nwoye camp was, however, hopeful that the letter conveying Ukachukwu as the candidate was in compliance with the orders of the court and could be reversed pending the determination of the appeal against the judgment coming up next Tuesday.

It will be recalled that in the heat of the controversy and prior to the  judgment of the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, that PDP had insisted that Nwoye was its candidate despite the insistence of rival aspirants including Ukachukwu and Senator Andy Uba.

In a letter by the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the National Secretary, Prof. Adewale Oladipo, dated October 2, 2013 and addressed to the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, the party stressed that Ukachukwu was the candidate of the party for the governorship election.
