The best of Nigeria amateur golfers will converge on Ikoyi Club 1928 golf course on November 9 as over 100 golfers will be contesting for honours in this year’s Southern Sun Ikoyi Golf Day tournament. Although it is a tournament for amateur golfers organisers said the contest will be keen while plenty of fun and exciting moments have been promised.

In a pre-event media briefing in Lagos Monday, General Manager of the Southern Sun Hotel Ikoyi, Mark Loxley said, “there is a lot to play for as the star prize is a fortuna car which has been set aside for the hole-in-one winner, courtesy Mandilas Motors which is one of our sponsors.. There is a lot more fun and more prizes.” He disclosed that Nigeria’s foremost comedian Ali Baba will be on hand to entertain the numerous golfers and guests that will attend the post match prize presentation ceremony.
He also disclosed that the foursome method, adopted last year has been retained for this years edition The foursome method is not dependent on individual scores. “It depend on team work,” he explained.
Golf Captain, Ikoyi Club 1938 Architect Tayo Babalakin disclosed that the golf course was in great shape while the golfers who will take part in the competition have been training hard for the event. “The level of competition will be higher than what we witnessed last year,” he said, promising that everything has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free event,” he said.
Temitayo Buraimoh who represented Diamond Bank, Anton Marais of Stanbic IBTC and a host of other co-sponsors also graced the event.
