Why we want to deliver Anambra workers – Omar

Why we want to deliver Anambra workers – Omar

Ifeanyi Uba

By Chris Ochayi

After defending its hold on Ondo State and helping its former national president, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to retain Edo State, organised labour is seeking to make Anambra State its third staging post in the country.

The irony is, however, not lost on many that organised labour is frolicking with one of the country’s leading capitalists in the Anambra gubernatorial contest, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah.

Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC national president, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar is, however, unapologetic over the alliance between bourgeois capitalist and the working class.

Defending labour’s endorsement Ubah, Omar at the end of the recent National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the NLC said labour would ensure that all votes are counted as it did in Ondo and Edo States.

“We have now resolved that we will not only go and cast our votes and fold our arms after sensitizing the workers and other Nigerians, but we will monitor the collation, the counting up to the declaration of the results. We will encourage every worker to ensure he or she will be part of the monitoring.

Noting the unique political culture in Anambra State and the need to salvage the working class in the state, he said:“if you go and ask Anambra workers if they are fully enjoying their minimum wage, you will hear their answer; whether they are very comfortable in their various places of work, you will hear the answer. Not only workers, even market women and other people, therefore I think Anambra people are desperately looking for a change and a change for the better.”

He said that the Labour Party will campaign in Anambra state the way it did in Edo and Ondo states, “we will even do more, we will tell the sceptics that Labour is the party that Nigerians need if they want development as is being witnessed in Edo and Ondo states.”
