UYO—The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Sam Ikon has said the reasons why the state lawmakers are not fighting with the executive arm of government is that the interest of both arms of government is to meet the yearnings of the people, the electorate in the state, and not their personal interests.
His words: “As a State House of Assembly, the lawmakers try to ensure that legal and financial frameworks for smooth administration of the state is laid, not to look for problems where we can confront the executive and make gains from it. ”
Speaking while declaring open a three-day workshop organised by the House on Parliamentary Reporting for Reporters covering the House, Ikon said: “We are in partnership with an administration that is people oriented, an administration that goes out of its way to ensure the yearnings of the peoples are met. That accounts for the synergy, peace and cooperation you have seen between the executive and the legislative arms because we have the same goals and objectives.”
