We’re marginalised, Etche people cry out


PORT HARCOURT — THE people of Etche in Rivers State have decried what they termed their continued marginalisation by the Federal and Rivers State governments.

Chairman, Etche Heritage, Dr. Acho Nwokogba, said it was sad that the area was yet to feel the impact of oil that was discovered in commercial quantity over five decades ago.

He said: “It is noteworthy to state that crude oil was struck in commercial quantity in Umuechem community in 1958, barely a year after it was discovered in commercial quantity in Oloibiri.

“Despite Etche’s contributions, when it comes to sharing of dividends of good governance, such as political appointments, and federal presence, in terms of infrastructure and human capital development, the people are left out.”
