Scientists declare beer a hazardous drink

Certain beers can be more hazardous to your health than others, new research has suggested.

A small study published in the journal Substance Use & Misuse attributes alcohol-related injuries to some of the most popular beers on the open market.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore interviewed 105 emergency room patients who had suffered alcohol-related injuries. They waited to let them sober up and give proper consent first.

Of the top 20 varieties of alcohol consumed, 70 percent were among the most favoured brands. Three of those five beers are malt liquors.

The research only showed a correlation (not causation). However, malt liquor has a higher alcohol content than other beers. The bottom line is this: Whenever you’re drinking alcohol, consuming too much at once is dangerous. And since drunk driving—and even walking—can put your safety at at risk, it’s smart to always arrange for a designated driver or call a taxi to get home at the end of the night.
