Orudu land tussle: We’re for peace, land owner, agent tell trespassers

Owner of the expanse of land encompassing Orudu Village in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, Otunba Adebayo Ajao and his estate agent have said they are interested in peaceful resolution of the ownership crisis over the land.

They assured that they would rather resort to dialogue than demolishing anybody’s building on the 653 acres of land.

The assurance came on the heels of allegation that agents of the land owner invaded the area to carry out demolition exercise.

Ajao claimed that he acquired the 653 acres of land from Orudu Oyekan Family as far back as 1972 for the purpose of farming and was later surveyed and registered with conveyance in the then Western Region with registration number 40 page 40 vol. 1366 of the land registry Abeokuta (formally Ibadan.)

Farming activities were said to be carried out on the farm but suddenly stopped due to the nation’s oil boom and with long years of inactivity, a section of the Oyekan Family was said to have encroached on the land and started selling to unsuspecting members of the public.

Just recently, the Inspector General of Police, IG, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, ordered fresh investigation into the unabated crisis and incessant violence at Orudu over the ownership of the land.

The IG’s order was sequel to a petition, dated June 20, 2013 and written by solicitors to Basorun Ajao, through the chambers of Kola Awodein.
