Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State will like to see the Super Eagles return to the U J Esuene Stadium and play their final qualifier for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

This was the sentiment expressed by the State commissioner for Youth and Sports, Patrick Ugbe in his office Monday, pointing out that Calabar had provided everything that the team needed to succeed.

”They started from here. It is à Cross River project and even the players themselves want to qualify for the World Cup from Calabar,” Ugbe said.

Hé insistes that the Stephen Keshi tutored team got the best run of results from Calabar which will make it more attractive than any where else in the country. “The results speak for themselves. Since the Eagles started their romance with Calabar, they qualified for the Nations Cup and went ahead to win the trophy. In the World Cup qualifiers, the worst résult has been à draw against Kenya and everybody knows the rôle of the Calabar fans in all this.”

Hé said, “we are happy that people who come here commend our efforts. The Malawians, for instance, were impressed with what they saw. Organisationally, we are world class, with condusive environment for teams and guests. So whoever is planning to take Super Eagles matches away from Calabar has à huge mountain to climb.”

Sports Vanguard gathered that there are subtle moves by some states to take Super Eagles matches away from Cross River State, à development that has been resisted by players and the technical crew.
