Emmanuel Babayaro

AS Nigerians continue to celebrate Monday’s draw that pitched the Super Eagles against Ethiopia despite fears that unknown teams produce shocking results at the end, Emmanuel Babayaro has further dismissed such fears of Ethiopia posing a problem for the Eagles to be in Brazil.
“It’s a walk-over!”, he screamed yesterday insisting that the Eagles are already in Brazil.
‘’There is not nothing that will stop Eagles from beating Ethiopia. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. Do you want us to draw Egypt? Or do you want to draw Cameroun?. We prayed for this and God answered our prayer. We should be thankful to God.
“It’s a pity that many Nigerians underate our team. Do you know that the Eagles are on a winning streak? The way they are, it will be difficult for any team in the world to beat them. We are champions of Africa and we have the champion’s stuff”.
Not wanting any argument over upsets, Babayaro who was in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games winning squad said; ‘’my brother, we pass dem’’.
Reminded about the over confidence that saw Angola edging Eagles out of the African Cup of Nations, Babayaro retorted; ‘’forget Angola. We knew what happened and God also punished us. Look at the Eagles attack with Emenike, Moses and Musa’’. We did not do well at the Confederations Cup because most of these good players were absent. If they were present, Spain would have seen the real Eagles”.
He however admitted that the game would not be a stroll in the pack.
‘’Ethiopians will make Eagles sweat. They can knock the ball around but at the end, they will fall’’.
Babayaro also reckons that if Eagles don’t qualify for the World Cup, it would be a bad omen for a country that many tip that could be the first African nation to win the world cup.
“Keshi will take a walk or be sacked and we will start afresh. That will spell doom to Nigerian football. There are no ifs in the last world cup qualifier.
The first leg will be played between 11-15 October with the host choosing on the exact date while the return leg will be played between November 11-15th.
Ethiopia finished top of Group A despite being docked three points for fielding an ineligible player against Botswana.
