The Nigeria Customs Service,NCS, Oyo/Osun Command has arrested a suspect with fake Customs documents for smuggled vehicles. This came on the heel of recent interception of 56,750 rounds of live ammunition in the state.
Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Mr. Oteri Richard, who paraded the suspect before newsmen in Ibadan, explained that the arrest was made possible through the intelligence network of his officers.
He said: ‘It is important for people to know that the current system of operations in Customs is intelligence driven, which makes it easier for us to detect crime within various places. Investigation is ongoing and we must ensure thorough findings to uncover the syndicate that specialises in forging Customs documents. This would help in reducing incidence of smuggling of imported vehicles and other forms of economic sabotage.”
Richard added, “aside from other strategies mapped out to curb smuggling in the state, we have positioned competent officers at the borders to check influx of offensive items, especially ammunition into the country.”
