Three killed in Bayelsa boat mishaps

Yenagoa — Three persons were reportedly killed, week end, in separate boat mishaps along  the creeks of Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State.

While two persons, among them half brother to the late former National Security Adviser identified as Felix Azazi, lost their lives along the waterways of Ekeremor council area, a woman also reportedly lost her life in the Forcados river close to Agbere in Sagbama Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the Ekeremor council area boat mishap occurred at 7.30pm, Friday.

The deceased persons, it was learnt, were heading to Ojobo in Delta State for a wake keep when the boat in which they were travelling capsized while trying to overtake another boat.

The ill-fated speedboat which met its waterloo in front of the Mobile police jetty at Ekeremor was said to have sailed from Tuomo in Delta State.

The other deceased person which identity could not be ascertained, Vanguard learnt, is of Urhobo extraction.

The deceased Urhobo man, a landlord in Warri, according sources, was said to have embarked on the trip for the wake keep to identify with his tenant alongside his wife when tragedy struck. His wife was, however, lucky as she escaped with five others.

Meantime, the Forcados river boat mishap was said to have occurred at about 8pm also on Friday when a speedboat collided with a wooden boat, killing a woman some distance away from Agbere in Sagbama council area.

The deceased woman whose identity could not be ascertained was said to have sailed from Oshikwenike in the council area when she met her untimely death.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, could only confirmed the Sagbama boat mishap.
