Police seal off senator’s constituency project in Ogun

By DAUD OLATUNJI

ABEOKUTA—Anxiety has     gripped    residents  of  Ota, in Ado-Odo- Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, following the deployment of  a detachment of  policemen from the state police  command who  eventually sealed off a town hall project.

The project was reportedly  constructed by Senator Akin Odunsi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District of the state on the platform of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) and was billed  for commissioning this  weekend.

Vanguard gathered that the   police  acted  on a petition allegedly written by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

Reacting to the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the action was meant to prevent break down of law and order in the state.

According to him, the Police acted on a petition allegedly written by the PDP to the Assistant Inspector-General Police, (AIG) and copied to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye.

He said: ‘’Yes, we sealed- off the place in the interest of the public, in order to prevent a break down of law and order in the area as well as in the general interest of the state, based on an earlier petition from the PDP.

‘’We received a petition from the PDP that the project that was to be commissioned was actually a federal government project, which the senator wanted to hijack and arrogate its completion and success to himself rather than the federal government.

‘’We have had a dialogue with the senator and explained to him why the project would not be commissioned. But we have asked him to go ahead with the chieftaincy title.”
