KANO—The Kano State Government, Monday announced that it has revoked certificates of occupation of 85 plots of land allocated to individuals in Kano metropolis.

The Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya, said this when he briefed newsmen in Kano.

Yahaya said the state government took the action following the refusal of owners of the plots to develop them after the expiration of government’s deadline.

He said the state government also revoked the certificates because the plots became hideouts for criminals in the metropolis.

The commissioner said that owners of the plots were given three-month notice four times to develop the plots but refused to do so.

“The government gave the affected persons three-month notice four times to develop them, hence, the decision to revoke the ownership,” he said.

Yahaya said that 38 of the affected plots were located at Groundnut stores area, 36 at Farm Centre, while the remaining 11 plots were located at the Trade Fair area.

The commissioner said the state government had discovered over 300 plots that needed re-grant and called on the affected individuals to get re-grant or forfeit them.
