*Fayemi’s claim is false —Adeyeye *Stop exhibiting ignorance —Fayemi…
The campaign organisation of Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, has dismissed as false the claim by the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi that he gave personal scholarship to six Ekiti students to study abroad.
The organisation, Prince Adebayo Adeyeye Movement, PAAM, said that Fayemi’s claim was not only false, but cheap and childish advertisement of a failed government.
PAAM said in a statement by its Director General, Hon. Bisi Kolawole that, “What we are simply demanding from Fayemi is names of 20 Ekiti students that he helped with as cheap as payment for JAMB forms between 2005 and 2010.”
However, in a swift reaction, th e governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode alleged that Adeyeye has laboured to create false impression in the minds of people through illogical reasoning.
According to Oyebode; “The Governor’s decision to award full scholarships to these exceptionally brilliant students is to assist them in their quests for greatness and to encourage countless others to dare to be excellent in learning and character.
“And this is without prejudice to the activities of the scholarship board, which apparently cannot take care of every student that applied for it.
“Governor Fayemi, who is impressed by the exceptional performances of these six graduates chose to personally sponsor their post graduate studies in their chosen foreign universities including Harvard, Oxford and the University of Technology, Tinajin, China.
“It is rather amusing for anyone to compare the gesture of the Governor to the N500,000 Adeyeye claimed Mr. Segun Oni’s administration paid as scholarship to Ph.D students.”
But Kolawole fired back, asking: “Was he (Fayemi) giving such scholarships when he was going about with his Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, business?
“The reality they are trying to runaway from is that their claim that the scholarship he gave to six Ekiti students to study abroad was from his purse was total falsehood and even a five year old child can never believe it.
“And in their bid to defend this falsehood, they have exposed to the public that when Adeyeye was Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board,SUBEB, the board’s fund was used to execute projects, hundreds of which were ongoing before Fayemi came to power.
“Isn’t it even interesting that in the warped opinion of Fayemi and his men, the responsibility of completing SUBEB projects that were ongoing before October 15, 2010 should be that of Segun Oni and Adeyeye?
“Instead of false generosity, we think Fayemi and his men should rather tell the public how a governor, whose monthly salary is less than N700,000 could have sponsored scholarship worth close to N50 million from his pocket?”
