Boundary dispute: Edo community agree to abide by Oba’s judgment

BY SIMON EBEGBULEM

BENIN—THE People of Amagba in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, weekend, debunked claims of fresh communal crisis between them and those of Ugbor, saying the boundary dispute between their community and Ugbor neighbours had since been settled by the Oba of Benin.

In a statement by counsel to the community, Osayomwabor, the community urged its people to disregard the purported announcement credited to the Odionwere of Ugbor village, which tended to create the impression that a new boundary between both communities had been created.

The statement read: “The Oba of Benin has, in his fatherly disposition, constituted a palace panel of Chiefs, headed by Chief K. O. Obaseki, the Oronba of Benin Kingdom, to consider the boundary dispute of which the report and recommendations of the panel were accepted by the Oba of Benin in Council with the accepted boundary as the kolanut and Ikhinwin trees identified by the two communities.

“The Odionwere of Ugbor is advised to desist from anything or act capable of causing disaffection between the two peace-loving communities of Amagba and Ugbor.

“Amagba community will remain law-abiding as we will not take laws into our hands, while we hold on to the first palace judgment of 2011.”
