MAKURDI — Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani, yesterday, declared his intention to contest the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state.
Lawani said he had three weeks ago informed the Benue State leadership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, of his intention to run for the position.
The deputy governor spoke while receiving in audience, members of the Benue State Governor’s Aides Forum from the Benue South Senatorial district at his Makurdi office.
He said: “About three weeks ago, before I travelled, I had informed the state executives of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, of my intention to put myself forward to run for the office of Governor of Benue State.
”Before today I have had delegations coming to me to urge me to run and I am declaring today before you that I am running and I am counting on your support to actualize the dream.”
Speaking, chairman of the forum, Mr. Clement Okoh, said the visit was purposely to elicit the deputy governor’s position on the forthcoming 2015 general election.
”As leader and father of the governor’s aides from Benue South District, we are here to seek your direction ahead of the forthcoming 2015 general election.”
