Anambra 2013: Ex-Minister withdraws from APGA primaries

By ENYIM ENYIM

AWKA—Former Minister of State for Water Transport and governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prince John Emeka, Monday, withdrew from Anambra governorship race on grounds of alleged imposition of a candidate on the people by Governor Peter Obi.

His withdrawal came just as another aspirant and member representing Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia in the House of Representatives, Uche Ekwunife, complained bitterly to the governor that that she didn’t see the list of delegates for the primaries, in spite of her request and complaints.

Addressing reporters on the issue, Prince Emeka said he decided to join the race because the party and Governor Obi zoned the  slot to Anambra North senatorial zone and asked the people to bring out  their best but regretted that after the people of the area had decided on him, the governor made a u- turn to impose a particular aspirant from the zone on the people as the party’s candidate.

He said: “I invited you the media this morning to officially tell  Anambrarians, Nigerians particularly Anambra North that I am officially withdrawing from the race to seek to be the candidate of APGA for the November 16, 2013 governorship election.

“This decision I am making right now is as a result of what I witnessed in the past 72 hours, starting from where APGA held its primaries to select three-man delegates that will come out today to cast their votes for the person they want to fly their flag.

“I want to say that what is happening on ground has turned out to be an imposition or an attempt to impose someone. As am talking to you right now, I’ve not seen any delegates list to enable me to know who to campaign to, those that won the election, while the governor is going from hotel to  hotel talking to delegates to support a particular aspirant.”
