A 31- year- old man Chinedu Nwuruku, was Wednesday, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly assaulting three police men. The suspect was said to have conspired with some soldiers who were fully armed and abducted the policemen to Bonny Camp in Victoria Island. The accused who is facing a five- count charge: conspiracy, stealing, assault and false information by the police, was docked before Magistrate Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Samson Ekikere, told the court that the defendant and others at large allegedly committed the offense on June 25, 2013 at Ikate round about, Lekki-Epe expressway at about 5pm, during which the policemen on patrol identified as Inspector Johnson Aruku, Sergeant Momoh Isaac and one Corporal Johnson Ime, were inflicted with body injuries .
Ekikere claimed that a Rolex Wristwatch worth N14,000 belonging to Cpl Johnson Ime, one Techno phone valued at N8,500 and N22,000 property of one Stanley Ogege were stolen in the process.
He added that the defendant gave the soldiers false information claiming that the policemen gave arms and ammunitions to armed robbers, an offense ,he said was punishable under sections 409, 285, 96 (a) and (b) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
But the defendant pleaded not guilty to the five-count charges when read to him,while his counsel, Oshibogu, pleaded for his bail, disclosing to the court that the accused had been in police custody for over four weeks as against the stipulated time of detention.
