As an insurance consumer, have there been times when you feel that you need to associate with other insurance consumers to address issues or challenges of mutual interest? Then INSCAN can be of help.
The Insurance Consumers’ Association of Nigeria, INSCAN, was formed to protect the interests of insurance consumers in Nigeria and to expose the immense benefits of insurance to the Nigerian populace.
The roles which INSCAN play include speaking for the aggrieved on insurance; educating the public on insurance; safeguarding the insurance premium; as well as to secure value for the premium paid. Others are to support the insurance industry to grow; to provide insurance information & statistics; to create job opportunities in insurance; as well as to manage volunteer insurance crusaders.
Who is an INSCAN Member?
An INSCAN Member is that individual, family or corporate body who is insured, may later be insured, whose loved ones have or may become victims of accidents or who has or may have any matter to resolve or clarify on insurance now or in the future. INSCAN also provides the opportunity for the non-insurance professionals and those who are able to see some linkages between their businesses/jobs/profession and insurance to make inputs to the conduct of insurance business in Nigeria.
It is worthy of note that a member cannot be a serving insurance practitioner, engaged in insurance agency, broking, underwriting, loss adjusting, reinsurance, insurance regulation or insurance market associations.
Hence, the membership of INSCAN is drawn from two sources and they are:
a) Volunteer members – These are members who join INSCAN without having any claim, complaint or grievance against any insurance practitioner or institution. At this level, you are a Volunteer Insurance Crusader (VIC) to serve under any of the following six platforms:
i. Volunteer Insurance Promoter (VIP)
ii. Insurance Crusade Lawyer (ICL)
iii. Insurance Crusade Press (ICP)
iv. Volunteer Fire Fighter (VFF)
v. Insurance Crusade Technician (ICT)
vi. Related Support Service Provider (RSSP)
You may as well decide to be a non-service providing member.
b) Contractual Members – These are members who join INSCAN because they have grievances with insurance institutions or individuals and organisations who failed to comply with the obligations to provide insurance.
