Federal government will use Private Public Partnership, PPP, to ensure access to safe water in the country. Government will also provide the enabling environment for the private sector to realise this dream and to provide jobs for its citizens.
President Goodluck Jonathan who disclosed this in Lagos last week emphasized the importance of safe water to good health in Nigeria.
The President, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Water Resources, Prof. Dan Adebiyi, at the official launch of Primeau Filter, said government was in support of initiatives to provide safe water and help reduce deaths from water-borne diseases as well as provide jobs for Nigerians.
The President hinted that the Federal government is working towards providing safe water for Nigerians, noting that sustained private partnership, would make the initiative happen. Also speaking, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, represented by Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, described the project as a noble way of getting safe water in the country.
Managing Director, Ogun – Osun River Basin River Authority, Eng. Bayo Alayande, representing the Minister of Water Resources, said PPP as a universal approach to WASH- (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene).
WASH, which is part of global water sustainability, increased access to safe water for schools and communities in Nigeria, aims at reducing by 20 percent persons without access to safe water.
Chief Executive Officer, Revelations Water Technologies Inc, producers of the filter, Mr. Ron Moser, said the product utilises the most advanced form of nanotechnology to kill bacteria without t use of chlorine. It is capable of filtering 2000 litres or water.
