Jonathan reaffirms commitment to sports development

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday in Abuja, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots sports development during the presidential launch of the Rhythm N’ Play programme, a Nigeria Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM)’s initiative. The President who is the grand patron of Rhythm ‘N’ Play, said his government is willing to reposition sports by encouraging young people to embrace sports early.

“We are committed to grassroots sports development and we are going to bring back Physical Education into schools by making sports compulsory for every kid because we believe that getting them early will indeed be a better idea to groom world stars,” the President said, adding, “with this initiative, we are aware of the enormous challenges in terms of facilities but we are determined to reverse this trend by making use of cost effective style to ensure that we achieve the target of engaging 2million kids participate in sports.
