The World Cup qualifier between the Eagles and Flames of Malawi in September, could be the last match coach Stephen Keshi and his wards will play at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar, as Sports Minister, Mallam  Bolaji Abdullahi has ordered that matches involving the national team be moved elsewhere.

It was gathered that the Minister right from the first game against Namibia last year, never wanted the Eagles to play in Calabar, but for the insistence of coach Keshi and his players.

“We won’t be surprised if the game against Malawi is the last the Eagles will play here,” said a top Cross River government official in Calabar.

“After the first match he wanted them out and the coaches and players insisted that they have been winning their matches in Calabar and they decided to stay here and since then the minister has not been coming for their matches,” added the official.

He stated that the Cross River government did everything to make the Eagles comfortable and also ensured that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF got all that they wanted to host the matches successfully.

“We spent resources that could have gone to other uses. And the least we expected is appreciation from those in charge,”the official added.

Apart from the draw against Kenya, the Eagles have won all their matches in Calabar.
