BENIN CITY— SECRETARY of the Youths Sports Federation Of Nigeria (YSFON), Prince Harrison Iyonoma has commended the efforts of MTN Football Scholar in discovering educated Footballers in the country.
Speaking during the on- going trials for the MTN Football Scholar Academy at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Iyonoma hailed the initiative by the telecommunication outfit to search for talented footballers at the grassroot and urged other multi national companies to emulate MTN.
According to him, “we must give kudos to MTN for this laudable land mark , the programme is a developmental progra-mme aimed at picking the kids from the grassroots, nurture them so that they can act as replacements for our aging players.
“And it will also give them what to fall back on after their football careers”.
Meanwhile, out of hundreds of young talents that thronged the stadium, only about twenty persons will be selected to continue in the scheme.
MTN Football Scholar is a soccer camp that focuses equally on football and academics. It provides a platform for Nigeria’s best students athletes/soccer players who are academically sound, to earn scholarships to US universities.
It is a scholarship that connects MTN to the positive aspirations of Nigerian youths for international exposure in soccer and education
