King Sunny Ade’s ex-guitarist, Fatoke Abiodun who was unceremoniously retired from his band about six years ago,  has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for drug trafficking.

The 62-year old veteran guitarist was arrested on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 with 1.575kg of cocaine while trying to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the screening of passengers to Italy. He was reportedly sentenced to three years imprisonment last Monday.  Fakoke pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful exportation of cocaine.

He played for King Sunny Ade for 30 years before he was unceremoniously retired in 2007. Meanwhile, all attempts to get reactions from Abiodun’s former band members proved abortive as Sunny Ade’s aides hitherto declined to comment on the matter.
