Premier league clubs chase Ikhana’s signature

Former coach of Enyimba Football Club Kadiri Ikhana is on the shopping lists of two Premier League clubs seeking his service towards beefing up their technical crew.

Ikhana, according to a reliable source, is likely to return his familiar terrain because of the enticing offers being dangled at him, adding that what is left is for the award winning coach to finalise negotiations with the club and possibly pick the one that is more favourable.

The Edo-born tactician who was in charge of technical matters in Kwara United, Sharks and Kano Pillars Football Clubs at various times in the past is said to have turned down offers from Ghana and Niger because of the demands of the Nigerian club sides.

Ikhana, a member of the 1980 African Cup of Nations winning Green Eagles squad is said to have agreed to return to the sideline this month but his involvement in a motor accident in the ancient city of Abeokuta three weeks ago delayed the process.

He was involved in a head on collision with his latest black Honda Accord car in front of the Abeokuta stadium, with the tactician ending up in a local hospital where he stayed for almost two weeks.

When contacted, coach Ikhana said though he is not ruling out the possibility of his return to the sideline soon but his primary concern for now is to thank God for saving his life in the accident
that almost claimed his life few weeks ago.

“You will be the first to know when the deal is struck. I am committed to the development of the Nigerian league and football in the country. If people have confidence in my ability and there is the enabling environment, why won’t I return?

What I can tell you now is that what you are hearing is not far from the truth,” explained Ikhana who led Nigerian women team the Falcons to a fruiteless chase of silverware at the 2012 African Women Championship in Equatorial Guinea.
