The Police  Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Sylvester Igbo, told  newsmen   that the attackers attempted to rob the ADC of his official car, Toyota Camry with registration No. EBGH 178.

“As soon as the hoodlums swooped on the ADC, he brought  his service pistol swiftly and shot one of them,’’ Igbo said.

According to him, the police are making efforts to track the fleeing suspects, as a device which looks like firearm was recovered from the wounded suspect.

The arrested suspect confessed to newsmen that he committed the offence and attributed his involvement in the crime to poverty.

“I am a school dropout from Mbeke-Ishieke Boys’ Secondary School, as I just started robbery some months ago due to hardship,” he said.

Igbo also said that the police on May.2  arrested suspected cultists belonging to the Black Axe and Vikings confraternities during a fight among their members.

“The suspects are students of the Ebonyi State University as one of them escaped with matchet-cut wounds,” he said.

He called on the people of the state to continue offering maximum support to the police by furnishing the security agencies useful information, among others.
