LAGOS — Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Monday, called for the establishment of six standard forensic pathology laboratories across the six geo-political zones as part of efforts to develop that aspect of medicine.
The NMA, whose call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its 53rd Annual General Conference and Delegates Meeting, tagged “EKO2013”, also urged governments at all levels to improve their commitment to forensic medicine.
NMA President, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, said: “Though we commend the efforts of Prof. John Obafunwa-led team of pathologists in the identifica- tion of bodies recovered during the unfortunate Dana plane crash last June, doctors are unhappy with the poor support given to the development of forensic pathology in Nigeria.
“We call on government to invest in all areas of forensic pathology, including the establishment of six standard forensic pathology laboratories in the country.”
