Delta set for LG polls, as Uduaghan inaugurates DSIEC

BY Austin Ogwuda

Asaba—Members of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, were, Tuesday sworn in, with Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, charging them to work towards conducting a successful local government election in the state.

Uduaghan, after explaining the encumbrances that led to the delay in the council elections, said: “We do not have time, coupled with the anxiety in the minds of our people.

“I, therefore,  wish to state that the Commission is expected to immediately come up with the necessary arrangements for the local government elections. I equally expect that it would be one that is not only realistic but will  be followed religiously for a successful exercise.

“As men of honour and integrity, you must strive to protect your names by ensuring that you perform your duties with due diligence. We have a lot to learn from the electoral process at the centre. I state,  therefore, that our electoral process is maturing. Nigeria today has various political scenarios, which point to a growing and maturing democracy.”

Responding, Chairman of the seven-man commission, Mr. Moses Ogbe, promised that they will discharge their duties without fear or favour, saying that they were prepared to restore the confidence of the electorate in the ballot box.
