Delta state has been nominated by the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN, to host the first National cycling Championship billed to hold in Delta state in September this year.
The Technical Director of CFN, Mohammed Bashiru told Saturday Vanguard sports that the board of the federation has picked Delta state to host the six-day male and female tournament billed for September.
“After long deliberation by the federation, we came to the conclusion that Delta State should be given the hosting right for the very first edition. Delta, as you know, has been one of the best in terms of performance in the country.
The championship will follow the UCI Pattern as all the events approved by the UCI will be competed for in the tourney that will span over six days,” he said.
Bashiru stressed that the cyclists will compete in road race, individual time trial, team time trial and the team pursuit, adding, “We have sent letters to the chairman of the Delta state sports council intimating him about the tournament.”
