C/River tops in martial arts competition

Cross River State contingent has come first in the just concluded 2013 Agoma Martial Arts Festival held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital with 11 gold medals, four silver and four bronze as well as the Most Valuable Trophy by Ann Odemigbo.

Welcoming the contingents in his office, the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Ugbe said the superlative performance of the state contingents in the festival was an encouragement in the preparation for the National Sports Festival tagged Canaan 2014 which the state will be hosting.

While presenting medals to the athletes in what he called their victorious expedition, he said that the state will begin preparation for the sports festival in good time in all the sporting activities it will be taking part in and urged the athletes to ensure that they dominate in the sports of Kungfu during the festival.

Ugbe said that the state will want its contingent to win all the gold medals in the Kungfu and martial arts in the National Sports Festival and urged them to maintain discipline and take their training seriously as the government was making everything possible to see that her athletes are in good condition to win more laurels for the state.
