BENIN—Benin Na-tional Congress, BNC, has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Health to ensure transparency in the appointment of  the next Chief Medical Director of University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin City, Edo State.

The first term tenure of the incumbent CMD, Prof. Michael Ibadin, will terminate in July this year. He is expected to seek for a second term in office.

BNC, in a statement by it Director of Publicity, Mr. David Ekomwenrenren,  noted that federal appointments were always shrouded in politics, rather than on merit and fairness, which according to it, affects the management of such institutions.

“In the current situation, we have it on good authority that the various union leaders in  UBTH are being blackmailed to officially endorse the incumbent administration on the pages of newspapers, under the guise of felicitating a situation that we consider antithetical to decorum, peace and tranquility before, during and after the recruitment exercise.

“As a socio-cultural organisation of Edo people, we don’t project any candidate for any public office of this nature, but, we will resist any attempt to impose a dishonest candidate or a stooge by centrifugal force, who believes that federal establishments are their inheritance, and that they must produce or impose their helmsmen.”
