We won’t fail against Congo, Eaglets promise Nigerians

Nigeria’s Under-17 team, the Golden Eaglets have promised to beat Congo DR and make up for their slip against Cote d’Iovire in a group B match of the CAN Under-17 Championship in Morocco.

After handing Ghana a 6-1 thrashing last Sunday, the Eaglets fell to Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 on Wednesday, but as they play their last group game today, the tournament’s highest goal-scorer, Success Isaac has promised that the team will come out clean and pick a FIFA Under-17 World Cup ticket by beating Congo and reaching the semi-final.

“ Against the Ivorians, we wanted to win and we went into the field with that positive mindset. But it was unfortunate that we lost.

However, we are promising Nigerians a better performance starting with the game against Congo.

We are determined than ever to do our best and by the grace of God, we won’t disappoint,” said Isaac who scored all his goals against Ghana.

Cote d’Ivoire lead the group with four points. The Eaglets need to beat Congo to make good their entrance to the semi-final. The Congolese team with two points in the kitty will try hard to cause another up-set in the game and also aim for a semi-final slot depending on the result between Ghana and Coted’Ivoire.

The defeat by the Ivorians was the first in the Eaglets competitive matches in the continent. And it brought the team down to earth, but according to Nigeria Football Federation technical committee chairman, Chris Green, the Eaglets were still favourite to win the title.
