Chairman of the board of Special Olympics Nigeria (SONigeria), Mr. Victor Gbolade Osibodu has maintained that the directors are fully prepared to intensify efforts to help athletes with intellectual disabilities achieve greatness and have a sense of belongings in the society.

Recalling the activities of the SONigeria since its existence, Osibodu said that it has gone through thick and thin but was happy that they have been able to weather the storm. He thanked his co directors for their effort and endless sacrifice to ensure that Special Olympics Nigeria is on the right footing.

National Director, SONigeria, Mrs Folashade Bolumole thanked sponsors like MTN, Coca Cola and Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotel and Guaranty Trust Bank for their support thus far. She stated that, ‘in the past 10 years, with your help we have been able to recruit over 12,000 athletes and 800 volunteer coaches.

We have also given sports training and competition opportunities to more than 8,000 people with intellectual disabilities across five geo-political zones in Nigeria in 7 sports”.

She also noted that ‘’we have organized two (2) National Games; June 2006 and September 2010; attended Four (4) World Games and an Africa Regional Games”. Mrs Bolumole praised the parents of these athletes for their courage and understanding whilst urging them to encourage their children to participate in games lined up for the year.
