The 25- year old Ehiz, who restled Kemi Owatemi and Ada Ogunkeye, to compete for the grand prize of N10m worth of contract in the just concluded MTV Video Jockey Search said his becoming a winner in the competition was a very big surprise he never imagined .
In this encounter, the Edo born Computer Science graduate of Leadcity University, shares some of his challenges and his personal life experiences. Excerpts.
Journey to fame?
Well, I have nothing much to say, all I know is that, I did a lot of hard work and as I always say,God is involved. It all came by surprise. I never bargained I would get to where I am now. All I know is that I entered into the contest just like other contestants. And finally, here I am.
Winning the MTV VJ Search
This means one major thing: no more hunger for me. There have been lots of hunger before now. I have really had it so rough.
Growing up
Ehizojia Okoeguale is my name; I am the last child in the family of five. My mum is a caterer whom I love so much. I was born in Ikeja , Lagos State and I attended a private secondary school. I am a Computer Science graduate of Leadcity University. I am a full blown Lagos boy. Though my growing up was not that rossy, I never lacked the basic things of life. I was given the basic things for my up bringing. As the last child, I had to help my mum do one or two things being the only person around
Entertainment ambition
Basically from high school, I used to host things like social nights, end of the year party, school dance and other events. It was fun all through but I had no idea that I am going to go this far.
Studying Computer Science instead of Theater Arts
I never acted while in school. I never took drama serious though I was in a drama class in primary school. Those started back then when after classes, we would start cracking jokes. I always dominated at such times. That was how we were doing it at that time.
Having more friends in the music industry
Music is in me. I listen to all kinds of music and I am a very big fan of Nigerian music. Far before the new school, I mean before the likes of Wizkid, Davido and others, I have started. I am the last of five kids. I have four elder ones who love both local and foreign music. So, I started developing interests in music from there. Then, I listened to songs by Mike Okri, Blackky, Ebenezer Obey, Pasuma, Omawunmi, among others. These are some of the musicians I listened to their songs often. Basically, when you become a VJ, you now need to study the art of the music. Before the VJ work, I liked to research a lot. Music is in me.
Relating with old friends after winning
I relate well with them. They are good. Aside from my family’s support, I did not think I would survive the heat of the MTV VJ contest without the support of my friends. They kept me steadfast and humble. They kept me in line so, I can’t say that because I have won the contest, that we are no longer on the same level. No, I can’t do that. I even still do the normal thing we used to do together even now as a VJ like, fetching water and so on. We have our cooking timetable. Whenever it is my turn to cook, I do that.
Living with parents
No, I don’t. I left my parents even before I went for the contest. I stay with my friends. It has been long I started staying with my friends, even before I left the university. I am on my own but that doesnt mean I don’t visit home. I do visit my people often. As the last child, I love my mum so much and I am so dear to her.
Graduating from University
I graduated from the university in 2011 and I stopped staying with my parents in 2009. I was in school and still contesting for the MTV stuff.
Life before the VJ Search
I was just living life, I was actually doing nothing.
My stylist
My stylist is Seyiwa. She designs everything I wear on television.
Handling female fans
I handle them brotherly. I can’t say no to them. I don’t have any relationship before now. My last relationship was in 2007. One thing you have to know is that, for any male artiste, female fans contribute a lot to their fan base, so, we try as much as possible to handle them with care and kindness. I do not abuse the opportunity.
Breaking up my relationship
It just happened. I have been single since I assumed this position and I am not looking for any girlfriend now, because, I am always very busy person and I want to give my work a very big attention. Besides, I am not yet ready for that kind of hide and seek game. I am on the verge of pursuing my career now and I don’t think that anything can stop me from achieving it. With God on my side, I am going to make it good and great.
