Ekeji bows out

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Dr Patrick Ekeji yesterday retired from the civil Service.

Ekeji bowed out after handing over to his former Director of Finance and Administration, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha in a brief ceremony at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Ekeji, we gathered, put in his resignation on Monday, following a Presidential directive on

Ekeji’s tenure as the DG began after he was moved up as Director of Sports Development in the commission. When his tenure expired few years ago, an interesting horse-trading saw him keeping his position on consultancy.

The high point of his reign in the commission was the glorious outing of Team Nigeria at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

The Presidency is yet to fully recover from the shame that was the London 2012 Olympics where Team Nigeria returned without a single medal, the second time in 24 years since the disastrous outing at Seoul ’88 Olympics,” said our source.
