Bala Mohammed appoints Tangaza AGIS boss

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Sen. Bala Mohammed, has appointed  Hajiya Jamilah Tangaza as the new Head of Abuja Information Management Systems, AGIS.

The minister said the appointment of Hajiya Jamilah  who was until last week, his Senior Special Assistant on Information Management Systems, was aimed at placing the right people “in positions where their optimum contributions will impact positively to the overall performance of the FCT administration.”

According to Sen. Mohammed, Hajiya Jamilah’s redeployment to AGIS was part of the first phase of an exercise that would reposition his administration for better service delivery.

Before joining Sen. Bala Mohammed’s team at the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Hajiya Jamilah was the Head of BBC’s Hausa Service – one of the language services of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC World Service.

As Head of BBC Hausa, it was her responsibility to oversee the production and transmission of the Service’s daily output on radio, online and mobile. She ran two production teams – in London and in Nigeria; and managed BBC Hausa Staff which included producers, broadcast journalists and In-the-field reporters in Nigeria, Niger, Ghana and Cameroun.

Prior to becoming the Head of BBC Hausa, Hajiya Jamilah worked as Acting Head of BBC Hausa between 2005 and 2006. She joined the BBC in 1992 as a Producer – planning, producing, and presenting news and current affairs programmes for the BBC Hausa Service. In 1994 she became a Senior Producer, overseeing production and supervising BBC Hausa staff and reporters in the West Africa region. From 2004 to 2005, Jamilah worked as the BBC’s Abuja Editor, responsible for planning and organising the BBC’s output from Nigeria.

Jamilah has also worked with various other BBC departments, presenting and producing a range of programmes including BBC World Service’s English flagship programme, Outlook, and the BBC’s English for Africa programmes, Focus on Africa and Network Africa.

Last week’s redeployment exercise took Dr. Isa Jalo, former Director of AGIS to FCT Archives and History Bureau as Director; while the Mr. Charles Irodi Nnodim of FCT Archives and History Bureau is to take over in Health and Human Services Secretariat as Director of Admin & Finance.

The Minister has also approved the appointment of Mrs. Aishatu Adebayo as the Acting Director of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB. She was Deputy Director in AEPB until last week’s appointment.

Sen. Mohammed also directed that effective April 1, 2013 the 3-months pre-Retirement Leave be complied and enforced in the services of the FCT Administration.
