The Local Organizing Committee (LOC)of the Africa Athletics Junior Championship, tagged Warri 2013. billed to hold between March 27-31 at the Warri Stadium, yesterday visited the Delta State Oil Producing Development Company
At a brief ceremony, held inside the company’s premises, the Chairman of the Board, Oritsuwa Ikpogho, donated a warm-uptrack at the stadium for the use of athletes before their actual races. The company said that it was their contribution to the event.
Ikpogho said that they will support DeltaState in organising a befitting championship, pointing out that they were happy that many Nigerian top athletes are of DeltaState origin.
Ikpogho and all members of the Board welcomed the team and pledged support for the LOC, which was led by the Chairman, Amaju Pinnick, who thanked them, saying that they have always been part of sports development in Dela State.
The team also visited the Warri South Local Government, where the Chairman, Austin Orie, who is also a member of the LOC, pledged total support for a successful hosting of the Athletics Championship.
The Warri Stadium, venue of the Championship, is in his domain. He said they will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the event lived up to its top billing.
Orie said that they will mobilise people, funds and everything that will make the competition a grand one.
