PORT HARCOURT —  AT least two persons have been allegedly killed and several others injured as supremacy battle between Debam and Dewell confraternities escalated in Omuawa community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The cult war reportedly started, Tuesday, with the warring factions using guns and other dangerous weapons, forcing exodus of innocent community folks to neighbouring communities. Several were said to have been severely injured in the raging cult war.

Kelvin Amadi, one of the community residents displaced by the cult clash lamented lack of government and police concern in the current situation.

He said: “We had to desert our homes for our safety. Even the police are not able to bring it under control.  Cult mercenaries from the city have even joined to support their respective groups as the battle gets hotter in Omuawa.”

Jude Elendu, another resident appealed to “government to act fast, adding that lives of several innocent persons unconnected with the war are at risk.”

One of the leaders of the Degbam faction simply identified as Philip, a.k.a Naked Wire was quoted to have described the clash as normal.

Rivers Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Ugwuegbulam, was yet to confirm the situation at press time.
