Sokoto—Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, Tuesday, signed the 2013 Appropriation as well as three other bills into law.

Assenting to the appropriation bill of N115.8 billion, which was passed by the State House of Assembly last week, the Governor asked public servants to have the fear of God while discharging their duties.

Wamakko said: ”Each and everyone of us is accountable to Allah (God) in spite of the place we are posted to serve.”

The other bills signed into law included those establishing the Sokoto State Bureau of Public Procurement and Price Intelligence, Statistical System and Office of Statistician–General and the Fisheries Law.

Wamakko said with the signing of the 2013 appropriation bill, “respective MDAs are now responsible for ensuring effective implementation of the 2013 budget. I must categorically state without mincing words that we have, on our part, discharged our responsibility.”

According to Wamakko, the bills on transparency would ensure accountability, transparency and adherence to the provisions of due process in conducting government businesses.

Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Lawalli Zayyana, said the House now had working tools and logistics to carry out its legislative duties.

The speaker said: ”A month ago, N220 million was used to procure vehicles for Committees.

”Happily enough, about N1 billion has been voted in the 2013 budget for comprehensive rehabilitation and repairs of the Assembly Complex.”

Zayyana said that the House had passed the 2013 budget with slight amendments.
