ABUJA — The main entrance of the National Assembly complex was shut, Tuesday , as disengaged staff of National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, protested their sack from the service.

Spokesman of the protesters, Useh Fidelis said “about 4000 staff of the commission were laid off without due process.”

According to Fidelis, the aggrieved staff have made several representations to the National Assembly without fruitful results.

The protesting ex-workers are demanding reinstatement while some are asking for their full benefits.

The NIMC was established by the Federal Government in 2007 to manage the National Identity Database and to assign a Unique National Identification Number and issue General Multi-Purpose Cards to registered individuals.
