Rivers lawmaker seeks public hearing on oil pollution

PORT HARCOURT— MEMBER representing Ahoada West in Rivers Sate House of Assembly, Dr. Sam Eligwe, has appealed to the House to hold a public hearing on environmental pollution and degradation in Ahoada West Local Government Area of the state.

The lawmaker, who made the call following a petition by 14 oil producing communities in his area against the operations of Nigeria Agip Oil Company, said there was urgent need to rescue affected areas in his constituency from the grip of pollution arising from activities of the oil company.

Eligwe said crude oil pollution had affected economic trees, drinking water and devastated the environment.
