PDP’s NWC moves to eject Obasanjo’s loyalists from Ogun Secretariat

ABEOKUTA—INDICATION emerged Tuesday that the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was planning to eject members of a faction loyal to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ogun State from the party Secretariat in Kuto Abeokuta. The faction currently occupies the secretariat..

The NWC in a letter  to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, and by the party National Secretary, Onwe Onwe  urged the  IGP to order the   state

Commissioner  of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, to  allow the newly recognised faction  operate as a legitimate  and substantive state Executive.

“Following  the unanimous resolution of the National Working Committee of our  great  party on February 14,2013, I am pleased to inform you that  the party is in compliance with the judgment of Justice Archibong in suit No; FHC/L/CS/347/2012 delivered on May 2012 which recognised  the Engr.  Adebayo Dayo-led  PDP State Exco in Ogun State as duly elected.

“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to use your good office to direct the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State to ensure that Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led PDP state Exco be allowed to operate as legitimate and substantive State Chapter Exco of our great party in Ogun State.”

Meanwhile, PDP’s financier in the state, Buruji Kashamu, while speaking with newsmen in Ijebu-Igbo after a  stakeholders’ meeting, claimed former President Olusegun Obasanjo imposed  former Military Administrator of  Oyo and Ekiti states, Gen. Adetunji Olurin (rtd), the action which he said worked against the party.

According to him: “If we had known, we could have advised our father better that with the age of Olurin and the position of Olurin then, there was no way he could have won the election in Ogun State because, he lacked experience

“There were lots of young people, intelligent and well educated people, like former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole; Hon. Kayode Amusan and Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello. We had many young people we could have used. We have Abiola’s children, even from Yewa we would have got an eligible candidate. Even, as we’ve won now, we would bring Ogun State to normal. By the time we work hard, whether they like it or not, PDP must take over the state.”
