Imo judiciary workers commence strike over minimum wage

By CHIDI NKWOPARA

OWERRI—Imo State branch of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, yesterday, commenced an indefinite industrial action, following  alleged government’s refusal to pay their minimum wage till date.

The union’s National Legal Officer, Mr. Dacep Habila, who was in Owerri with two other national officers, Mrs. Victoria Fulake and Mr. Celestine Chukwuma, to enforce the industrial action, confirmed that the branch religiously fulfilled all the processes before the strike.

He said: “There has been no meaningful response from the state government to pay them their due share of the minimum wage.

“During the negotiation, the state government did not seem to be sincere as they abandoned the negotiation half way and refused to come up again.”

Noting that labour would be very willing to resume negotiations with government again if it showed readiness, the labour leader was, however, irked by the fact that the state government had not been sincere.
